Can anyone tell me what is the color of the steering column on a 59 vette. The interior of my car is red. When painted does the color of the column continue to the steering box? Does the column come out from the box itself? Thanks Pat McPherson 55168

Re: 1959 corvette steering column
Page 13 of the TIM & JG says 'Column assembly on 1959-60 is gloss interior color extending at least several inches below hub (remainder of column is black to steering gear). I just put my assembly back in my 1960. It is painted interior color down about 6 or 8 inches then black from there to the gear box.
The other steering column is pressed into the gear box and is not intended to be removed. You can however take the guts out of the gear box which includes the steering shaft which includes the worm gear.

Thanks for the information. Just another way GM was sloppy in their production. Pat McPherson- Top
