3.08:1 Rears - 1963

Good Evening,

I'm interested in getting information on how many 3.08:1 rear differentials were produced for '63 vettes. I have a fuelie with a matching number "special Highway" rear; just wondering how many total, then how many fuelies may be likely. Thanks, All.

The NCRS Spec Guide says that for 1963, 211 3.08 non-Posi and 2,259 3.08 Posi axle units were built, but there's no further breakdown of the specific applications.

My 63 came with a 308 posi rear. The car is a May built car and the rear end had a December casting date but a May assembly date. Makes me think they were not a popular option. The original owner must not have liked the 308 because because I found a 336 in the car and the GM ring and pinion were stamped with 1964 dates.

Noland Adams book lists a total of 422 3.08 posi rears for FI and 340hp engines combined.
