      Bill,

Not sure how much to refurbish the radio and power supply/speaker; I'll let someone else answer that. According to the judging manual, the Powerglide numbers are "on the rear face of the case, in the lower right-hand corner." Prefix is "C" for Cleveland, followed by one or two digits for the month (1-12), followed by two digits for the day (01-31), followed by "D" or "N" for day or night-shift. The number on mine is C 310 N for March 10, night shift.

It is a flipper car - if you look at where the conv top come up from under the conv top lid - there are flipper mouldings, chrome - that allows the conv top to come up and unfold - the mouldings are on the body - either side - just in back of the door
Later cars were changed and have a different moulding

My #1725 has the flippers. They did not work - broken and/or bent all the while. Later cars had the bows bent out in a wide radius to clear the body. Don't know what serial# that change took place. My car has the dual hood release cables, chrome valve cover and ignition shield, and bullet air cleaners, all of which fit in the serial # sequence. FYI.

The block casting number is in front of the fuel pump - down low close to the oil pan.......It can be read....
You are correct - the head is not correct - should be a 241 head.....
                    Keep the photos coming !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
                    Kool find.

Staying w/ the drivetrain for a minute:
Were the 911 block and 241 cylinder head common w/ the passenger cars? How hard are they to come by?
It's my understanding that the 53/54 Corvette Powerglides are different from the passenger cars in that the tailshafts are made to accommodate an open drive line, while the passenger cars still used torque tubes? Again, how hard is it to find a correct Powerglide?
Have a bunch more photos to upload (with an equal # of questions), but can't do that at work. Will try to get them up over the next couple days.
I also took the Owner's receipt file home to review.

911 blocks are common - but the stamping on the pad next to the dist should be a number followed by F54YG
The 241 head is a Vette only and rather hard to come by and rather $$$$
Corvette PG is different - 53/54 glides have no trans cooler lines and the rear tail shaft housing and output shaft is different - for a slide in type driveshaft
Correct and complete powerglides are rather $$$$

Thanks Chris. More pix & info:P1000030.jpgP1000027.jpgP1000028.jpgP1000029.jpg The sidecurtain frames and weatherstripping need to be re-done but don't appear damaged. Plexiglas looks pretty good, and I believe has the correct date code "AS-4 1-54" (visible in the photo @ right if you blow it up)! Underside of the trunk lid. There is a jack and tire iron in the trunk, but unless GM was sourcing jacks from China in 1954 it is not correct.

Needs to be adjusted as it binds on the front lip when opening - got to be careful! Underside of the top well looks ok. My friend noticed that the gas tank cover is loose. I was engaged elsewhere and didn't make it back to explore underneath. Later going through the receipt file I found a note indicating that a 1956 repro tank had been fitted. Not sure how close that would fit. More interior photos to follow.

Didn't see any cloth covered wiring. Needs a new harness. Readings on odometer and tach not helpful - I think the odo shows 400 odd miles, and the receipts did not have any mileage noted. Pretty sure the interior has been replaced at some point, but if so it was prior to the current owner.

The rear did not fare so well although I did not see any perforated areas. Exhaust looks fairly new and there is a receipt in the file from Grossmuellers for a new exhaust system. Also a receipt in the file from Grossmuellers for a rear top bow - I did not spend any time trying to figure out if there is now a full set in the trunk. More frame pix to follow.
