    Re: FI Unit Serial Numbers

    Thanks, Pat.

    John,
My engine was assembled in Flint on January 26 and my tag is dated January 1962. So how long did it take Rochester Products to produce a fuel unit, put a tag on it, and ship it to Flint to be installed on a stamped engine? Is this the month time frame you are talking about? Is this typical time or could it have happened faster, say three weeks, or two weeks, or less? Rochester is only about 340 miles from Flint so the transportation time is not great. What if sales were faster than expected and the St. Louis factory was waiting on units to build customer ordered cars. Could these have been expedited any faster? It just seems to me that one month is a long time. It took 7 days from the time my engine was assembled in Flint to the time my car was shipped from St. Louis. Seems like GM achieved "just in time" most of the time, especially the engine plants.

Bruce, I apoligize to you as I confused your info with Patricks. Your inspection tag on your original car seems to fit quite nicely.
      Thanks, John
