I took my "6 E F" balancer (with the "rough" cast section on the back side as shown in photo #3) off a 1966 Chev. 327 Tonowanda engine back in the 1980's that was complete with heads, intake, carb., starter, and M/T flywheel with all the date codes matching up (May 1966). I actually bought the complete engine for $25. I believe that the part number for this balancer is GM # 3861970. I also believe that there were 2 different vendors that made balancers for Chevrolet.
GM # 3861970 was discontinued in June 1971 and replaced with GM # 3896904. I have had several NOS 3896904 balancers (stamped "6904") and there appeared to be identical to my "6 E F" balancer except they did not have the "rough" cast section on the back side.
