    '61 Steering Wheel Configuration

I have the steering wheel removed in order to remove the dash. I am not sure if the wheel was configured correctly on the shaft. Does someone have a photo of the steering wheel in the straight ahead position indicating how the wheel and horn contact should be orientated?

    Thanks!

There should be an index mark on the steering shaft. Hope these photos help.

Thanks John. My horn button was at the 7 o clock position.

When the mark on the shaft is straight up, the two pins should be on the left side, at approx 8 and 10 o'clock. (vertical, parallel to the shaft).

I assume the "pins" referred to are the turn signal cancelling roll pins on the underside

Thanks John I only have one pin! That why I didn't see the other.

Needs to be two--you should be able to see where the other went. Both are critical, in terms of position, for the turn signal to properly function. if one pin is missing, it's probably broken off because it (the steering wheel) was improperly positioned (clocked).

                  Larry,
The 2 roll pins are pressed into the steering wheel hub which in inside of the bell and stick out about 1/2 inch.
Do a discussion board search for the exact dimension) , I believe this has been discussed before.
If you need a roll pin (or 2) email me and I can drop then in the mail.

Attached is a photo. How could I repair or attach a pin?

                      Larry,
I can't see and I can not enlarge your picture but I assume the pin is broken off in the hole.
If so , since the roll pin is hardened I don't think you can drill it out.
If you can remove the wheel from the hub (it looks like it might be held on by screws) do that and locate and drill a hole over thre roll pin from the top down to the pin.
Then knock the pin out using a small punch.
Then you can install the new pin.

I am not sure were the pin is that you are talking about. Below is a better picture. I thought the pin was the tab sticking out in the picture. I do not see any other pins.

                          Larry,
The hub pictured is not a typical C1 hub, I'm not sure what it is from.
I will try and post a picture later tonight or tomorrow.

That plate on the back is by bubba. Take it off. Just visible beyond that plate's outside edge, at 2 and 4, are the holes for the roll pins. Now show us a picture of the mechanism in the cup on the column--let's see what may be bubba-ized there, too.

Thanks Bruce. From what I recently learned, that plate does not belong as was added for what purpose I don't know. I will PM you with my address if you can send the roll pins. A picture of what it should look like would be great!
                              Thanks again.
