C2 Shift Pattern Plate Restoration

I have searched the Archives, but could only find info on how much the original shift plates differ from the reproductions. I would like to use my original which only has a few light scratches. Has anyone tried to use light compound or 2000 grit-4000 grit sandpaper to restore the shift plate? I do not want to alter the appearance of the grain on the shift plate.

In that case, I would not touch the plate with anything abrasive. I think your best bet is to leave it just as is and live with the scratches.

Joe, I was afraid that was the response I was going to get. I was trying to find out if any members had experience in getting out the scratches. Also, if they tried an abrasive was the grain in the plate still visible.

Believe the top clear finish you would attempt to polish is a Clear Anodize finish, but that's a guess.
