In my mind that shed’s a little different light on this issue, the online database is a wonderful tool and we should all use it. However, you must remember it is unverified by GM or NCRS. Members or for that matter anyone, I believe, can post information they for some reason feel is accurate. That accuracy may not be verifiable, so while it can steer you in the absolute correct direction, it is for a large part undocumented and unverified.

Right, and I can personally guarantee that there is one record in the NCRS "published by owners" Dealer database that is wrong. I know because I created it. Here's what happened. I did the restoration on my 67, the body had never been off the car before I pulled it off. I have the protecto plate for the car. I saw the dealer name had written in the POP next to the data plate. I then saw the Dealer and Zone Number on the tank sheet. I put the two together. This is where I believe the error came in. It is possible (and in my case the truth) that the dealer that ORDERED the car is the NOT the dealer that first SOLD the car. But before the NCRS service to validate shipping records came about, I put that (incorrect) mapping of dealer/zone number to dealer name in the online NCRS tool. I don't know how to correct that, other than creating a duplicate record. That doesn't seem like the best fix for it.

I would think that the recently acquired microfilm from GM then cross referenced against GM dealer listings is a much better way to figure it out. The Shipping Data Report found here => https://www.ncrs.org/services.php
