    Re: storage liner

Here is a liner stamping from a July 3 1970 Corvette showing a June 10 date and parentheses for punctuation. The marks are from the liner contacting the jack because the edge of the liner is fraying allowing it to drop down. I need to find that article on restoring the liner in the hoping of strengthening that edge. IMG_0782.jpg

        Re: storage liner

I have collected about 50 photos of original liners (or at least I was told that they were original) and there are so many variations in the stamping of these that, aside from the decoding, there is no standard. There were many different random characters and spacing. I have photos of "#", "/", ".", ",", "&" etc. These characters may mean something but I have not seen any correlation to dates produced. It is also very easy and cheap to have a rubber stamp made with any date and configuration you want so it is hard to tell what is original and what is not.

See Scott? I warned you that this thread may drum up some interesting/enlightening conversation. I am enjoying it and am learning from it too.

I think (strongly) that your storage bin is indeed an original one.

Adding to Jeff's comment, I am ready to suspect that the stamp that was used by the storage bin manufacturer was a generic, over the counter, all-in-one stamp. Likely, the type that has individual "wheels" with multiple alpha-numeric characters, and it was up to the operator to set it each shift/day for that day's production. I suspect that this is how spacing and "other" characters came to be used on bins. Of course this is just a/my theory. Perhaps others will ring in with alternative ideas that help us get to the bottom (no pun intended - wait, yes it was) of the matter.

We've seen many photos here and have shared much in the way of progress. I'm with Reba - as we learn more, and we likely have learned a lot since 1993 about this, we should capture the knowledge and include it into the hobby.

PS: Scott, that bin is in crummy shape. Will you take 20 bucks for it???

            Scott

After looking at your additional photos I now agree with Reba and Dave your bin is an original.
