    frame paint 59 vette

I am about to paint the frame on my 59 vette. First of all there are no stenciled letters or numbers. The judging book says it is painted a dull gloss black. Is a dull gloss satin or just a gloss? Thanks Pat McPherson55168

Interesting JG description "dull gloss black".

On my Mid-Year frame I used this Eastwood 2K Ceramic Satin Chassis Black. It might be a bit too shiney. I'm hoping it will age a little duller. It's really tough stuff, you can't scratch it off with a nail. Under it I used their 1:1 Epoxy Primer.

Looks good to me Mike. If you completely assemble your chassis in that position (upside down), you will find it much easier. That is how the factory did too.

I used to paint my restored frames with Dupont chassis paint. Was a tar based paint with a slight brownish hue to it. Was very glossy when first applied, mellowed out after a year or so but still a nice gloss to it. Don't get any gasoline etc on it, comes off easy.

Yup, That's what I was planing on doing. I have most of the parts for the front ready to start reassemby now.

Quanta still makes such a paint. And it's cheap...I noticed this shot below of a mid-year frame from Johh H's PowerPoint you can see it looked pretty bad before it left the plant. If you want 100% correct that's good solution. I actually considered using it over what I put on. That way if it wore off it would still have the tough stuff under it.
