Recommendations on A/C compressor

Hi team

My vette is done. I will post the final pics under my other thread called wrecked vette. However, I know it's winter and not a big deal yet but my air conditioning compressor is super noisy. Do you all recommend rebuilding it or getting a new one? Any recommendations on where to get it rebuilt if that is the best option?

Assuming that you have the original compressor, I think your best bet is to have it rebuilt. I don't know who does this work but there must be more than a few out there.

If you don't have the original compressor and compressor performance is more important to you than originality, I'd buy a NEW compressor.

I had mine rebuilt by Dom Tallarita and he did a great job. You can look him up on the members list. Rick

I would second (and third) that. Dom will do an excellent job if he is still accepting this work. Call or e-mail him and ask.

Your problem could be a lack of oil in the compressor or perhaps a front clutch bearing. Both of these are easy fixes without sending the compressor out. You could try these first. The Chevrolet Service Manual is your friend.....Section 1 on HVAC.

Worth a try, BG Products has a compressor oil that I have used several times to quieten a noisy A-6 compressor. I do not have a local source anymore so cannot tell you where to purchase it.
