    Engineering Service Letter

I have a photocopy of a February 1970 Engineering Service Letter that was published in Vette Vues magazine, perhaps five years ago. The subject of the ESL is "Soft Top Tears in the Quarter Area - 1968 & 1969 Corvette With Convertible Top".

The ESL describes the problem and its solution. In many respects, the ESL is very similar to what is seen in a typical Chevrolet Dealer Service Technical Bulletin (TSB).

What is an ESL? Can someone explain?

    Henry -

As I recall, TSB's were sent to every dealer, and ESL's were sent only to Chevrolet Zone Service Managers.

Thank you, John. I knew you would know something about this.

Today those documents are called PI's (preliminary information) and they're all available online to the dealers...

John, I have some 61-62 " Interorganizational Memos". To whom did those go?

            Mike -

Back in the typewriter days, that was the "standard form" for written communication within Chevrolet; there were no copiers in common use (Xerox) until the late 60's, so many of them were typed on metal mimeo templates and were mimeographed to provide multiple copies. Compared to today's many methods of instant communication, it's amazing that anyone knew anything outside their own personal work responsibility in the 50's and 60's.
