    Difference between 548, 519 and 935 Blocks

    Hi all,

I have an original 283/245 '57 engine (not original to the car) that I was originally planning on using in the '57 race car I'm restoring, but I've decided that I'd best keep that maybe for a Flight restoration one day and just use another 283 block for the race car. I'm going to use 461 heads since they were used on the car when raced.

But I'm wondering what the differences are between the 548, 519 and 935 blocks. I think the 935 can use a 327 crank to yield 307 cubes, but I don't know if SCCA would have allowed that much displacement back in the '60s. Anyone know what the differences between these blocks are and what the advantages, if any, of one over the other or can steer me to an information source on that?

    Thanks,

    Bob

519 blocks use neoprene rear main seal versus rope seal in 548, for another.

Never heard of a 935 block.

Bob, without looking at the old SCCA rule book 307 CI would run C (?) Modified. Hopefully someone has a rule book at hand. Mine are in storage.

          Steve,

It ran B so B it will be! But they bored the cylinders to in the 290s, so was there a cutoff CI to stay in B Production?

          Thanks,

          Bob
