1967 Corvette Convertible Top Date Code

I was looking at an original soft top for a 1967 Corvette and the date code as I understand it does not make scence. See the attached picture. The date codes appears to be 168. Which I understand would be January of 1968. Am I correctly reading the date code?

    Rob -

It would appear that either the top isn't original to the car, or it's mis-dated.

So I must be reading the date code correctly. The original top on my car has a 167 code, January 1967, and my car was built the 2nd week of March. I wonder if the picture I posted is a GM replacement.

        Rob,

I think with an 8 as the last digit, it is probably a replacement. The 167 date code is probably right as January, 1967 for a March car.

However, October,November,December date codes probably defy the Judging Guide, as I think the date code is M-Y and not M-YY.

Below are some photos of a 5 star Bowtie convertible rear window label that I shot at the 2007 Boston Convention, for comparison. Story goes that this car was put in storage by the original owner and that the convertible top was never used by him. The date code of 106, I would interpret as October, 1966 and conforming to the M-Y format.

I could be wrong. Any comments?

Rob, I bought a new top for my '57 OTC from GM Parts in '65. The top was/is like the original and couldn't be told from the original top with the exception of the date.

Unless I am missing something (which I may as I have been up almost 24 hours) you say your top is a January '67 and your 1967 car was assembled March '67. There is no problem there.

The original top on my car has a yellowed and torn window. I was looking at the 168 dated top to replace mine but the date code concerned me.

That is where I saw the top. I was going to bid on it but the date code didn't match the story. I have since received a date coded Al Knock top. I will probably have it installed. I'm vacillating a bit on putting a reproduction top on my car since it is all original....
