Is the AC Delco PF35 oil filter the correct spin on filter for a 1966 327/300 engine?

Re: 1966 Oil Filter
Thanks Michael, it does have an adaptor that incorporates a spin-on filter. Plan to go back to canister in future but want to change oil for now and it has a PF35L filter on it.- Top

Re: 1966 Oil Filter
Adapters for canister style engines were available in at least 2 types. One was designed for use with AC PF-25, PF-35 oil filters and the other for use with a Ford oil filter (PH-2???). The threads are different on these two so there's no chance of installing the wrong filter. Obviously, yours is the type that uses the PF-25, PF-35 filter. You can use either of these (or even longer filters of this series which I do not recommend) or the PF-35L. The PF-35L is a synthetic media version of the PF-35 and it's still available. I highly recommend it.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 1966 Oil Filter
Joe,
Is the PF35 or PF35L a direct replacement for the PF25? Thanks! Would it be OK to use it on my '69 350/300?

Re: 1966 Oil Filter
You can also use the PF454. I recall the original application was a big block installed in medium duty trucks. It has an anti-drain back valve, which is of no value for vintage Corvette engines due to the vertical mounting, but it's very good for horizontal of upside down mountings.
With the demise of the PF25, I use the PF454 on my Cosworth Vega, which is has a horizontal mounting, so the anti-drain back valve keeps oil from draining out of the filter back into the sump. It's a bit shorter than the PF25, which was a bonus because the PF25 would no longer fit on my CV due to the oil cooler adapter - insufficient clearance to a steering gear coupling. Before the PF454 came alone the only PF25 equivalent that would fit was a Purolator.
At least now, the CV has a blue AC oil filter even though it's not the same as OE.

Re: 1966 Oil Filter
Yes, I used the PF-35 and, later, the PF-35L on my 1969 small block for more than 30 years. I'll be using the PF-35L on the big block, too. However, I don't recommend using a filter any longer than the PF-35 as I believe it increases the chance that road debris could strike the filter and puncture it. In this case, I believe that any gain achieved by more filtering material and increased oil capacity is more than off-set by risk.
The PF-35 was discontinued quite some time ago and replaced by the PF-1218. It is slightly shorter than the PF-35 and has an anti-drain-back valve. The PF-35L is still available and is now the same length as the PF-1218 and has an anti-drain-back valve. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

The PF-454 replaced the PF-25. However, it's significantly shorter and that means less filtering material inside. I believe the genesis of the PF-454 was some truck applications that couldn't use a filter as long as the PF-25. So, the PF-454 was born. Sometime later GM decided to drop the PF-25 and replace it with the PF-454 for all applications originally using the PF-25.
The PF-35, which I used for many years, then was revised and became the PF-1218. The PF-1218 is slightly shorter than the PF-35 and has an anti drain-back valve. The current PF-35L is basically the same as the PF-1218 but with synthetic media. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
