I have dated Lectric Limited wires on my 65 FI. No problems so far and they are correct in length and configuration.

I seem to recall that Mike McCagh gave a detailed procedure on how to build yer own wires, complete with ink stamp. I thought I had saved a link to the thread, but I can't find it now. I also looked through his posts for the last year or so, but didn't see it there either. Maybe you could contact him directly if you're interested in going that route.

George, Joe,
I have some Packard wire with stranded copper conductor that I used to make the wires for a 69BB. Used the old braid, boots and terminals and soldered them onto this wire. If your boots and terminals are OK you could go this route. Probably simialr to what Joe said about Mike McCagh. The wire came from an antique auto supplier. ( Packard 440??) I can check if you're interested

Some time ago, Mike said to buy the Lectric Limited wires with the proper 90 degree boots, etc, then get some Packard 440 wire and use the boots and connectors from the Lecrtic Limited wires. If you need them with printing, (for judging) you can buy a stamp and some white ink.

Guys,
Thanks for all the responses. I was hoping someone else had tried these MSD wires, but looks like I will be the explorer. If they don't work out, at least I will have the right 90 degree boots and I can make my own set as some of you have done in the past.

I agree with the other comments I have a set of the 508N wires now and the longest ones are a little too long. They are now about 7 years old, and over the last 2 months have been on and off like a pair of Socks. I think all the movement of tying up the distributor cap and removing the boots to fit them into the motor mount slots have probably taken a toll on their life expectancy.

Check the resistance with an ohmmeter. If they are good (figure around 5000 ohms per foot of length max) then not really a need to change. If you hve a miss at high rpm under load, look at your rotor. Early rotors had a longer tip than most available today (changed sometime in the '70's) and that will cause a high rpm miss under load especially in a high compression engine @ high rpm.

George, I have the MSD wires on my black 63 FI car. I built them several years ago and they have worked well over a lot of miles. You should note that the 90 boots on the MSD wires are a different shape than the originals. If you're not have the car judged, though, that won't really matter.

Pertronix universal wire kit. Assemble your own wires. 90 degree boots on distributer, black wires.

Thank you for the offer to look for some 440 wire, I have sent you a PM.

Thanks to all of you for all the information. I just read Mikes article, sounds like something I might be able to do.

I picked up the MSD wires today, as stated they are nothing like the originals, but objective for tomorrow is to install them and see if I can get the car running right.

I do have an old used set of the LL reproduction wires that I didn't want to install, OHM ratings are all over the place, but they will make good donors for the boots.

Use NAPA PN 700103. You will need to change the dist cap end for 90 terminals. The wires are an excellent product but could use some t******* for length and account for the different end. If the car is not being judged, I'd stay away from the LL wires (IMO).

Be on the lookout for Delco #2987482 Ignition set. Perfect for a 63 to 65 FI, etc car. 90 degree nipples for the cap and really nice black connectors for the spark plugs.
A set went recently on ebay for big bucks.
