    Exhaust Paste

Does anyone have recommendation for or against using exhaust paste in putting the exhaust system in my 1960. I found some scorching on the underside of the body where the rear pipe joins the mufflers when I took the car apart and though some exhaust paste might help prevent leaks.

Also, does the paste make it harder or easier to get the pipes apart later?

I did a search and didn't fine much on exhaust paste.

    Thanks,

    Don

    Re: Exhaust Paste

I actually found a reference in the TIM & JG that sealer was used between the cross over pipes where they slip together.

So I assume it would not hurt to use it where all the other pipes join together.

Muffler cement (exhaust paste) works fine on the front crossover pipe on the SHP exhaust systems.
But this is just a slip fit with no clamps.
If you us it on clamped pipe joints it will crack when you tighten the clamp since the cement dries very quickly.

The 1968-1972 AIMs show its factory use on the clamped exhaust pipe joint at the crossmember at the rear of the transmission. You may want to check your year AIM to see if St Louis used it.

If you decide to go for it here is one product I have used:

VW/Volkswagen Parts, Audi Parts. Replacement parts, performance vw parts, performance Audi parts, Exhaust System, Air Intake, Cold air intake, ECU, Suspension, Maintenan

There are other less expensive products, but I have no personal experience with them.
