    hi Gary,
i took a pic of mine on my ao smith body. looks to be originally semi gloss black. it does have some corrosion but you can see the black paint also. i hope this helps.
    take care,

      Gary -

The shoulder belt reinforcement plates on my '67 AOS convertible are clearly black-primed, not plated.

        John,

When you say yours are black-primed, does that imply more of a flat sheen compared to semi-gloss? I ask because the remnants of paint on my brackets seem to have more of a semi-gloss sheen.

          Gary -

I'd call it semi-gloss (typical dip or flow-coat primer) vs. the semi-flat ("eggshell" sheen) typically seen on the underhood blackout surfaces.

            Gary,

These photos of my '67 (St. Louis body, built Jan. 11) show a white opaque plastic plug (GM 3738198 Plug, 1Boltweld-B1, Item 11, in the 1966 AIM) in the bolt-hole of the rear shoulder harness anchor plates. I have one of the plugs, the other has gone missing. It looks like remnants of semi-gloss black paint on the anchor plates.

Scott, my early AOS 67 also shows the black with the white plug. Note that the part is stamped "LTC".

                Bill,

I found the same stamping on the driver's side bracket on my '66. That stamping does not appear on reproduction brackets.

Thanks to all of your for checking your plates. I now feel confident that I can correctly restore my shoulder harness plates. I'll probably dip paint them with thinned, semi-gloss Rustoleum. I did that on my bumper brackets and they came our very nice, with appropriate runs in the hanging direction during drying.

                    Bill,

Thanks for the info and the picture, I will check mine next time I get a chance. Given Gary's observations, maybe during any "run" of these parts they were all stamped "LTC" on the same side, then half were bent one direction for the driver side and half were bent the other direction for the passenger side, in which case the "LTC" would not be visible (on the passenger side, in this case) unless the anchor plate was removed.

                      Scott,

I removed the shoulder harness plate from the passenger's side of my '66 as well, but I haven't cleaned it up yet. If the LTC is present on that plate, I should be able to see it. I'll try and check tonight and report back.

                        Scott,

Much to my surprise, there's no trace of any letters stamped into the passenger's side shoulder harness bracket.

                          Gary,

These old cars work overtime trying to keep it interesting. It's always something...
