Tachometer works when cold but stops working after 30 min

    Hi Team

Just had the car worked on and had the tach gear replaced. Works well but after driving it for about 30 minutes or so, it stops working completely. When this happens I can feel the cable that goes to the distributor and I can feel that the cable inside is rotating.

what do you all think can be wrong?

    Thanks

Pete take a look under dash and see if the cable appears to be hooked to back of tach.It maybe not quite locked in, or you have a issue with the tach.

Does the tach work intermittantly or did it stop completely and forever?

Unless the shop knew what it was doing they may have installed the gear incorrectly and typically when you replace one gear the other breaks shortly after installation.

Hi Joe - thanks for the info. The shop changed the gear and I believe the distributor shaft. It works fine for about 15 to 20 minutes then it stops working. I get home, let the car cool down and it starts working again.

        Strange
