    best exhaust for '62

I've read previous threads in archives, but would like an update. Whose exhaust system would members with experience on subject recommend for my '62 340 hp? I drive the car and will probably go with a stainless system unless I'm convinced otherwise. Primarily concerned wih ease of installation.Comments on standard vs N11 offroad also appreciated.
    Thanks

Corvette Central steel oval mufflers on mine. Just go slow and do not tighten anything until all installed. Best to work on a lift.

Call Werner Meier at Masterworks (Madison Heights, MI) if you want comments on N11. He's experienced with it, and hosted an NCRS seminar, and more. area code 248 - 583-0590

I think your 340 HP would need the round offroad mufflers. I found a pair of NOS mufflers on Ebay (they were pretty expensive) and have original tailpipes so I can't make recommendations.

ProTeam has the complete NOS system on ebay right now for only $2500.

Thanks, but like I said, I drive the car and want pipes/mufflers to last;so, probably want stainless even if it won't "judge." How bout it? Whose fit without a lot of cussing? By the way, has Corvette Central been sold? If so to whom and how's it working out?

This Stainless Steel system is from Corvette Central, although, it has been about 4 or 5 years ago. 340Hp 62 Vette: Easy to install.

I went with the alumanized off-road exhaust system from Corvette Central - it is a full kit. It fit great, looks good. It wont rust. It was reasonably priced (I think about $650 or so) and it was pretty easy to install it. And it sounds ok too - here is what it sounds like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g8Sad-9AYf0

Thanks, so far. Guess it depends. In some previous threads on subject was a good bit of criticism of CC's exhaust, especially the clamps which had to be modified. Maybe they've worked this out?? Concerning alumanized 'won't rust"; won't they rust from inside eventually? What would you estimate life expectancy of alumanized?

                    Re: best exhaust for '62

I installed the system with a friend at his muffler shop. He said it was about the easiest installation he has had for a full system.

And at about 1/2 the price for a stainless system - if it lasts as long or longer - I am still way ahead of the game.

Long ago I installed a custom stainless system on my 440 Plymouth Road Runner - and when it got hot, and expanded - the pipes would rattle a bit - the CC system does not seem to do that. But that was 30 years ago with the Road Runner

One last thing - it's minor - but as you know, on 61's and 62's the pipes end under the car - the beveled end tips look correct too

I have had a Corvette Central aluminized off road system on my 62 340HP car for 20 years.
I polish the tail pipes and after 20,000 miles they look like new, a great product.
My 57 FI car has the same type system and it looks great after 4500 miles.

Allen's used to make them for all or most of the Corvette vendors. http://www.allencorvetteexhaustsystems.com

I've got his aluminized system in my '62 340. It's 20 or 30 years old. Looks new.

I tried to install mine with me on a creeper and the car on jackstands. Didn't work well. Fitting it so it doesn't rattle can be fussy.

What about the clamps on the aluminumized system. Do they rust? I put an aluminumized system on my pickup and the clamps rusted causing the pipes to rust, which has caused me to shy away from aluminumized.
