63 and 64 Hood Latches

Pictured below is an original 63 Corvette R/S hood latch (GM # 3797118) that I bought at a swap meet back in the 1980's. The hatch is in excellent condition except for the broken section between the oval hole and the slot. The rivet head on the bottom side is stamped "91". The 1963 AIM shows GM #3797117 & GM #3797118 as being replaced with GM #3841437 and GM #3841438 on Jan. 11, 1963.

Were the 3797117/3797118 latches used on early 1964 models?
I assume that the 3797117/3797118 latches were installed on the 1963 assembly line and possibly on the 1964 assembly line until they were gone.

The 64AIM calls for 3841437-8 Catch Assy on Sec 11-13 sheet B2.00
Mine look very similar, but do not have picture to verify. Know later MY used yet another design which
did not have the two location holes on either side of the top single bolt hole. (not sure if any of this will help)

David, the RH catch on my Mar 64 is identicle to your picture, it's on the car now, I cannot see any difference.

My original 1966 & my NOS hood latches (GM #3841437 and 3841438) only have one hole (instead of three) with a much narrower width for the top mounting bolt.

Quick check of my early-ish '65 has the 2 holes to clear rivets on the driver side only. The passenger side, and both sides of my late-late '65 have the one hole for the mount bolt; same as your '66.

It's interesting that the assembly line still had some 3797117 L/S hatches still on hand in Fall of 1964 even though the paper change was Jan. 11, 1963.
