    68 small head rivets

As I've been working on my 68 I've noticed several areas where the aluminum rivets used had a much smaller diameter head than what is used in most places. The rivet itself is the same 3/16 diameter. The photo of the passenger side inner fender shows that a small head rivet is used to attach the washer jar mount and a large head rivet is used to attach the heater hose bracket. The AIM shows the rivet for the washer jar bracket as 3828548 and the same part number for attachment of the heater hose bracket, suggesting a large head rivet for both. It does not appear as any of these rivets were ever replaced. There are other places on the car that similar small head rivets appear. I've been unable to find a source for these small head diameter rivets. I know the larger ones will function fine, but if I could find ones like the originals, I would use them.JohnDSCN7146.jpg

Old Indian trick, chuck the rivet shank in your trusty electric drill, get your favorite mill bastard file out, and turn the head down to the size desired. If there is a will, there is a way.

Hi John, Dick's tip is a good one as there are not many small rivets used, but Dr R offers a decent variety http://shop.docrebuild.com/search.aspx?find=1968+rivets I am doing all the under body supports and clips on my 68 and have sourced these. =

Dick, Thanks for the tip. Sometimes an obvious solution is hard to see. I chucked them up in my drill press and made rivets that look the same as the ones that I removed.
