    Speedometer and Tachometer Needle Install

I have a basic question on the installation of the speedometer and tach gauge needles for my 1954. There are numerous postings on the various methods to remove the needles but now, after a rebuild, I need to reinstall them. I have not changed any of the internal workings or purchased new needles so hopefully - in my reasoning - it seems if I install the needles resting on the "0" pegs they should be close to calibrated. Would this be a correct assumption.
Any thoughts on installing them....have one suggestion I had found was to lightly press on the needle just a little past the "0" peg then lightly raise needle enough to go over over pin and press down so the needle rests with light pressure on the "0" peg. Any others suggestion or should I give it up and take it to a shop for recalibration??
    Thanks,
    John Lanning

Re: Speedometer and Tachometer Needle Install

    John . .
Assuming the procedure is the same for '54, removing and installing the tach and speedo needles on my '64 was done by twisting off the pointer support hub against the normal direction of rotation, while lifting it up and off. Same procedure for reinstallation - twist against normal rotation while pressing down until reaching 'zero'. The needle hub is a press fit on the stem.
