    67' Removing exterior windshield trim

Having trouble getting trim off windshield. I have the tool with the hook but can't locate clips and if I did I'm not sure how to manipulate tool to pop the trim loose. Where are these clips located; not sure I understand the pictures in the service manual. Any help with technique, etc. Would be appreciated.

    Dave ..
As a first timer I had the same concerns as what you are experiencing on my '64 when it came time to remove the windshield trim to replace the rubber windshield gasket. Finding the retaining clips is done by 'feel'. As you move the hook tool along between trim and rubber gasket you'll bump into the clips. Start from one end or the other, 'bump' into a clip, feel to insert the hook point into the middle of the clip while at the same time pushing and rotating the tool in such a way as to force open the back side of the retaining clip. You'll get the feel of it after a couple clip releases. .. While working the tool to release the clip and in order to gain a bit of extra leverage, I used a mini pry bar underneath the front of the trim to help raise it up and out of the retaining clip. Only enough pressure was applied against the trim as seemed reasonable. The paint was protected, of course.

If you are replacing the windshield gasket, I highly recommend the windshield gasket made by Corvette Rubber over any other. Though it's recommended to replace the windshield clips with Paragon replacements in my case the windshield clips on my car were not broken or rusted and still in perfect condition. They were left in place and reused. The trim snapped back in place over the new windshield gasket and looks great, no problem.

      John,
Do you recall how many clips there are?

        Dave,

I think there are QTY=23 of GM #3843939, and QTY=2 of GM #3859045, which are corner clips.

          Dave ..
IIRC, my car being a convertible I think there were 10 trim clips. As Gary points out, twice as many on coupes.

For '67: 3904931 is the service part number for windshield clips, except for the corner pcs. (2), which is listed as 3859045 and mentioned above. These numbers are in group number 10.096, page 10-2 in the GM Corvette parts book "REV" 11-81.
