One of my students cleaned the cylinder case surface (after a valve job on both heads) with them. The engine lasted about 8K before the rings gave it up. Burning oil and no power. Compression test was low & cylinder leak down told us the bad news. So he had to yank the engine and do the rings and the bearings didn't look too good either so he replaced those too. The bearings might have been on their last legs, or the cookies might have done them in -- no way to tell, but in any case it cost him a lot of money he didn't have. Not in a Corvette -- but an engine is an engine.

I threw those cookies out, but they keep showing up in the tool room again and again. I will not use them, even for cleaning axle hub faces before replacing brake rotor or drum. Wire wheel all the way and even that can throw wires if one is too fast or aggressive.
