    Corvette Publication Problem

A while back I purchased on Ebay a 1953 thru 1982 Corvette Parts and Illustration Catalog. This book was printed by GM Effective Date of December 1983 (14A Rev12-83).
This is a wonderful information source for older Corvettes, great detail right down to bolt and screw sizes. As good as this book is I have one question for the membership. For anyone out there that might be familiar with this book Is there a section (chapter) 13 ????
I have come across this stuation before. My wiring harness supplier (M&H Electric Fabricators in Santa Fe Springs,Ca.) checked their copy and sure enough no chapter 13.
It is listd in the index as "Body Wiring ----- Convertible Trim". Can anybody solve this mystery?????
    Thanks

    Re: Corvette Publication Problem

I have one dated March 83 Rev3-83 and it has 13.000 group numbers but it only consists of a page and a half. It starts with group 13.090 and ends with group 13.389. Appears to include harness for PW and Door locks, breakers for PW and rear defogger, hard top pieces, soft top trim, top cover WS, and rear window for C3 conv top available in black or white. Also lists T-Top panels for 68-77, though not for the later models. Later model (78-82) T-Top panels are listed in group 12.810. Just looking at the listings, I would guess that several of the parts could be found within other groups. What you are calling chapters are actually refered to as groups or group numbers. I worked in parts for several years and this kind of confusion within parts books was not uncommon. My book came from the dealership I worked at in the late 70's thru late 80's. Chip.

earlier part books have more pages for group 13, body wiring harnesses, grommets and convertible top parts. a 83 part book might be good for the early 80s C3s, but i would want a earlier part book for earlier cars. to get correct part numbers for a car i would not want a part book dated more than a year after the model year that i was restoring.

I have an 81 book and it is the same as Paul's -- only 2 pages in section 13.

if 13.389 is the last number in the group original items such as back curtain zippers (13.392), hold down straps (13.426), top dust boots (13.450), etc. were eliminated as later books were issued.

            All------

As parts were discontinued without supercession, they were dropped from the P&A Catalog. As of the last update and printing of the 1953-82 Corvette parts catalog in 12/83, there were very few parts left in parts group 13 which, as far as Corvettes go, never had a very large number of parts anyway.

Since the 1953-82 Corvette parts catalog was, effectively, a "dead" catalog as of the end of the 1982 model year (i.e. no no model year vehicles were coming into it), the parts in ALL of the parts groups were ever-diminishing.

So, if the 1953-82 Corvette parts catalog were to be updated and reprinted today how many parts would be left in parts group 13? The answer is absolutely none. As of now, all parts in group 13 of this catalog have been discontinued without supercession.

'65 P&A ran about 11 pages, single spaced, lots of part numbers if you are looking for NOS, but discontinued in the early 70's...
