    68 underdash wiring

I'm in the proces of installing the lower dashpad (speed/tach) on a '68 what I would like to see is a picture of the braces and correct routing of the wiring harness. When I purchased the car it had already been removed. I have a new harness but not sure of the correct direction to run the harness and cables. Any picture of under the dash would be appricated. Does the speedometer cable go over or under the support brace on the top left side? I want to make sure the correct routing prior to installing the dash pad. I have reviewed the assembly and service manuals but not enough information to feel confortable at this time.

    Thanks

on a Coupe there are no braces, I replaced all the wiring and harnesses in mine, (68 Coupe) and just did the best I could to make it fit. The aftermarket harneses don't leave much room (I think they are slightly shorter than stock). Dr. Rebuild has large laminated diagrams that definately helped me.

I have the original harness that came with the car, the aftermarket harness from Letric Limited which I compared to the origional is a dead ringer in size, length, and color. The new harness came with a color schematic that identifys where all the wires terminate. My question is how the wiring harness is positioned behind the lower left dash pad around the braces and column. On my '68 convertible there is three braces that go to the steering column two are on the left and one on the right. The wiring harness and other cables are routed through them.

A correct picture of the area would be most helpful.

      Thanks

Have you consulted the 1968 Assembly Instruction Manual? The drawings in there are what the assemblers used when they put your 1968 together at St Louis. They didn't have pictures.

One other point. If you are installing the harness at 70* consider warming it under incandescent lights for a few hours. If you are installing it in the summer place it out in the sun for a few hours before installation. It will be a whole lot more flexible if it is warm -- but do not overheat it an burn it.
