i bought a pair of the extensions in 1970 and am about to install them on the 56 of which i'm finishing a restoration. the 1970 P&A lists them as part # 3740295 and states therein that these pipes are stamped with the complete part number on their output ends. these 1970 babies do have the 3740295 stamped deeply on their ends as well as a white and black GM sticky label on them. my question: did original extensions installed at st louis have the part #'s stamped on their ends or is the stamping common to NORS pipes such as these? if in fact original extensions have the part # stamped on them, then future revisions of the 56-7 judging manual should note this feature of extension. i can just see it now, stamped extensions for sale . mike

Re: 56-7 tailpipe extensions
This doesn’t really answer your question regarding the production part.
The 1956 P&A book effective April 1, 1956 lists in group 3.705,
56 CORV………EXTENSION ASSY(16 27/32O.L.) (stqmped 3726706) …….3726706……2……3.25
The 57 lists 56-57 same as above with a price increase to 3.60
The 58 P&A effective March 1, 1958 lists,
56-57 CORV...same as above
58 CORV........EXTENSION ASSY..................3740295 2 3.80
no mention of being stamped with the part number or the length
I could not find exhaust pipes in the 56-7 assembly manual I have.
