I am trying to get the main hose set rebuilt for my '69. I am using the original rectangular aluminum block but am having trouble finding the "U" shaped pipe/fitting that attaches to the POA valve. It is a number 12 fitting that mates to a 5/8" hose. It is pictured below on an original set. Does anyone have a source for this fitting? A local air conditioning is going to crimp on the hoses for me.

Re: A/C fitting source help
Jeff,
Are you looking for the actual "U" shaped fitting that goes to the POA valve? Those can be located, but not typically in new condition. Retro fitting your old one is the best way to go. You say you are reusing the square block, so you must be fitting new cups to crush to hold the pipe on.
Also, be aware the the newer hose does not crush and stay in place as the older style hose does.
Others can tell you more about that as they know more about it than I do. There is a way around it though.
This forum is not a parts forum, but if you cannot locate a "U" fitting, I may be able to point you in a direction.- Top

Re: A/C fitting source help
Monte,
Thanks for your help. While I am using the original block, the bottom fitting is damaged and can't be used. It also may have been replaced some time ago as it is configured differently to every other original I have seen. I am having the ends crimped by an A/C shop locally.

Re: A/C fitting source help
Jeff - your post caught my interest, as my original assembly for my '72 ruptured the high-pressure hose. I have been unable to find a shop that can replicate the crimps, or even fit their crimping tools over the hose ends near the muffler and block. Did you verify that they can replicate the dual ring crimp? If so, please share! The shops I talked to only had 3-ring crimping dies.
Also seems like I saw one of these fittings recently on Ebay...

Re: A/C fitting source help
Hi Jeff,
Just did the same thing with my '72 last summer. I tried to find an NOS hose or a gently used one but did not have any luck. New shops will of course put the "new style" crimp on. I looked at numerous shops in my area and one person had the old crimping machine, but could not fit it between the square block and the hose.
I ended up going with Classic Auto Air in Tampa, no one else would touch this job. I just had a new suction hose put on using the "old style" crimp. It's not exact, but it's pretty close. Mark, the tech was great to work with, once you get past the salesman.
Good Luck!Attached FilesChris

Re: A/C fitting source help
Randy, the plan is to use a modern crimp on the hose. I wasn't even concerned with getting it to look original. The shop I took it to did not say anything about having trouble crimping to the original block, but I will check. Thanks.
Chris, I may try Classic Auto Air if I can't come up with the right fitting here. I like to deal with local merchants any time I can. Thanks for the advise?

Re: A/C fitting source help
Guys,
I have a crimper that will crimp it by the original block. I have a friend trying to duplicate the crimp patter, but it is still a bit off.
Jeff, Are you having new ferrules put on, or are you trying to re-use the old ones. The ferrules have two different size opening on the back side depending on the application you are going for. Having the 6", "U" re-plated is easy, once you find one, but the original block is a little more of a challenge. The last one I did, the block side, after the ferrules were brazed on, I just painted it and it turned out really nice. Just paint down by the ferrule, not the whole piece.
Let me know what and how you are doing it and we can talk.
As you can see, the crimper is a little different than the norm, and much easier to make a new set of dies for.
I may have the part lined up for you, but still need to confirm it is the correct one.
Get back to me,
Best of luck,
Monte
