I now have bf goodrich bias ply coker blackwalls on my 65 the spare barely fits in the tire tub with a tire diameter of 27.42 wich I assume is a little bigger diameter than original, the replacement size most common in a radial is a 205 75 15 with a diameter of 27.1, yesterday I learned something new that after speaking with kelsey tire there goodyear power cushion bias ply tires are the same diameter as original, being that gm wanted a 775 15 in a lower profile that diameter for original and kelsey is 26.27 they also state that any non corvette production car that came with these same power cushions had a larger diameter and that the 26.27 diameter was for the corvette only as gm wanted it, I was thinking about getting radials some day and was wondering why the 205 70 15 radial woudn't be as good as a replacement size being there diameter is 26.30 or almost identical to the corvette only goodyear power cushions, if anyone has the 205 70 15s on there mid year I would like to know how they like them and how they look, also I remember my first time seeing the kelsey goodyear power cushion bias ply redlines on my friends 67 and wondered why the diameter was so much smaller that my coker bf goodrich bias ply (almost wagon wheel look) silvertowns.

Re: Midyear tire size options
Hi Jim,
These tire threads are all over the discussion board but now I too am looking for 205/75R15 radial tires for my 67. I am probably going to install them on my original 6" rally's and I'm thinking about whitewall tires. I can't get past the double price per tire for those diamond back tires as I am not spending 1000 on four tires.
I can't answer your question about size except to say that the rev per mile are probably closer with the aspect ratio of 75 but I am not 100%, lets see what others say.- Top

Re: Midyear tire size options
Hi Tim there are not many options when it comes to the 205 75 15s Uniroyal tiger paw makes a whitewall in that size that I used in the past and was a very nice tire with a nice sidewall look to it, more options in the 205 70 15 the one I like is the BF Goodrich touring TA blackwall for $87, I agree 240 for a tire plus shipping for over a grand total is absolutely nuts.JR- Top

Re: Midyear tire size options
Here's my '66 sporting a set of Uniroyal 205 75 15's. Overall height is close (enough) to original size of 775 15 as to not cause significant descrepency in speed read out. Besides that..........blackwalls look menacing!.....lol.

Re: Midyear tire size options
Here's my '67 with 205X75s. I like these better than the 70s, since they have the vintage height, but there are very few non-DiamondBack inexpensive alternatives in that size except black walls.Attached FilesBig Tanks In the High Mountains of New Mexico- Top

Re: Midyear tire size options
Jim,
I have two cars with two different size tires. 67 has Pirelli P4000 Super Touring tires that I put on in 09. Size is 215/70 R15 H rated tire. I have been told that they were truely a W or Z rated tire. Can tell you they grip unbelievable and ride very nice. My main complaint is that if you take a driveway at full lock at any speed more then a crawl you will suffer from damage to the lip on the wheel well if it is original. Happened to me twice now! Problem is these tires are discontinued and I can not find a full set. I found one and have purchased but not picked up yet.
I just put Pirelli Scorpion 205/70 R15s on the 65 last weekend. Also had a 4 wheel alignment done. I can tell you from my limited driving on these tires that I absolutely love the. Great grip and I think they ride better then the P4000s. This car has F40 suspension with original shocks. I do not know if it plays or not but I really like the ride now. These tires are H rated and from what I understand are going to be discontinued also! Get em while you can.John Seeley

Re: Midyear tire size options
I know that these are only "S" speed rated tires but Walmart currently stocks Goodyear Viva II 205/75R15 blackwall tires along with the Uniroyal Tiger Paw blackwalls. The Goodyear tires can be purchased off the rack and out the door for $67.50 plus local tax and tire disposal fee. I bought a set of 4 last week to put on my '64 prior to the 2014 NCRS National Convetion Road Tour and plan to have the car flight judged.

I agree with you and others. The 205/75's are perfect. Wider and or shorter tires look funny on the original narrow 5.5" or 6" wheels.- Top

Re: Midyear tire size options
Tim,
I'm running 215/65-R15 on the front, and 225/70-R-15 on the rear. Falken SN-828's (Blackwall) all four mounted and balanced out the door for under 400.00 at Discount Tire. I love them. Only issue I have now is deciding on a good spare wheel/tire choice that will fit in the tub....- Top
