    327 Engine specs

Is the bottom end components (crankshaft and connecting rods) different or same for low horse and special high performance 327 applications?

    Thanks in advance

Same as is the crankshaft. The only difference in the SHP crank is a threaded snout for a retaining bolt for the damper.

Both the crank and connecting rods were different for 250/300 HP versus 350/365/375 HP. Both crankshafts were forged. One difference is that the lower HP crank was not drilled and tapped for a balancer bolt. The SHP crankshaft may also have nitride-treated journals but I'm not absolutely sure for this particular crankshaft.

The connecting rods were also different. However, they were both the same, basic forging. I don't know what the difference was but I expect it was either magnaflux inspection and/or shot peening. It couldn't have been too much, though, because in 1965 both rods cost exactly the same.

Pistons were different for the two series of engines. The low HP used conventional cast flat-top pistons. The SHP used domed, forged pistons.

Rod and main bearings were the same.

Bearing caps were all 2 bolt. No 327 ever originally used 4 bolt main bearing caps.
