    !978 Corvette Indy Pace Car

I purchased a 78 Pace car L82 4 speed with 17 original miles. The car came with no paper work
and I really do not want to drop the tank. Any help where I can get who the original selling dealer
was so I can start looking for the history on the car.

Go to Member Services at the top of the page and arrow down to Historic Document Service. My car is older than yours and had been through mulitple owners, but for $40 I discovered the original dealer and the date of sale. I have not been able to complete the entire paper trail but it helped.

Can you try to use a fiber optic camera or scope to view the tank sticker?

          Hi Rick:

I am amazed that a car with 17 miles on it has no paperwork. A car like that would normally have EVERYTHING! If original, someone in the past is likely sitting on all the paperwork. The person you bought it from should be at least able to tell you where they got the car and from there it will just take some detective work sifting through DMV records, etc. Although you may not find names you still hopefully find a paper trail on the car. I have had pretty good luck on tracking several cars history. Just one name can lead you forward. Example: my 67 had information except for the original owner who no one could ever find. I spent a lot of time going through clerk of the court records to find he had died in the early 70's. From those records, I found his son which led back to his mother that was still alive and had driven the car and was able to give me 40 plus year old photos. So be adventuresome. If you get nowhere, drop the tank and begin there.

Have you looked up under the dash to see if any paperwork is floating around?

A lot of these cars went from owner to owner on open paperwork. I know of several that are sitting around with open MSO's and have never been titled. As they move from owner to owner sometimes bits and pieces get lost, never to be found again.

GM Media archives and Allied Vaughn have the records for 1977 and up Corvettes:

Great Michael paid gm media archive said they can supply the vehicle invoice. Bob the car is a real 17 mile car
the story I got was that one of the owners passed away and the paperwork was never passed on. Im sure like you said someone is sitting on the paperwork. We checked under the drivers side dash nothing there. Under the seat we found a little blue hazzard operation card. Wondering which side of the tank is the tank sticker? On my 67 it was on the left side.

I agree. If the Allied-Vaughn folks have your VIN in their records, you will be able to obtain a copy of the dealer invoice for your Pace Car.
