[QUOTE=Bill Lennox (41387);655673]Founds some really nice pics including a date stamp on Dust shield for a 70.

JAN 70 TA Date Stamp.jpg Dust Shield Date Stamp.jpg[/QUOTED

Does anyone have the dimensions of the attached dust shield stamp date?

    Thanks, Bill

      1) That is the only dust shield date stamp I have ever seen, but since we judge the cars assembled with wheels on them there may be a good reason I haven't seen it before. OR this is the one and only example of that date stamp.

      2) I once saw a rear dust shield with the metal manufacturer's product code on it. It was clearly on the sheet before the dust shield was formed because it was distorted just like the shield was shaped. It is the same stuff the make the road barriers out of "Armor something".

Rememebr these parts are just products and not historical documents.

Very true Terry. It is still pretty neat.

I also find it interesting that the stamp Edward provided has the Month Day and full year. The 70 Stamp has the Month Day and last two digits of the year only.

The 70 stamp was not mine so I am trying to duplicate one for May 70 as mine is an early June build. Does anyone know the dimension of the 70 date stamp?

        Thanks, Bill

Should 72 have 1972 instead of just 72? Thanks

Rick, I have been playing with NCRS judging for a long time and I doubt I have seen a half dozen cars with the ink stamp visible on the trailing arms. I think it is a reasonable assUmption that originally they were all date stamped, but beyond that I think it is a stretch to expect any definitive details. If this were a scientific research project it would never get off the ground, much get to peer review. There are just not enough samples -- and most of those have been pictured here already.

I can think of two 1972s that had them a white car and a yellow car, but I don't have photos of either.

We only started observing these details when we started using lifts on the judging field (maybe a decade ago), but Gary in his rebuilding business may have seen more of them than anybody.

I had my trailing arms restore last summer by Bairs. I hadn't noticed the date stamps when I removed them but were pointed out to me when Bairs disassembled them in front of me. These are off my July 15 1971 LT-1

                Robert,

Is the ink stamp in the photo yellow or white. It looks to be yellow in the picture, but the few that I have seen are always ususally white. Just curious. I think we opened up a can of worms.

                  HI Ron,

This is part of the fun

Any chance you might know the dimensions of the date stamp without the full year and just the last two digits? Example: May 16 70.

                  Thanks, Bill

Ron, i believe the photographs speak for themselves, one white and the other yellow. These are the only pictures I took of the stamps and now both gone after they've been restored.

                      Robert,

I have only seen the stamps in white and never yellow, but hey we all know to never say never. As far as the size of the stamp, see one of my prior replies that indicate the height and width. If that does not satisfy you, send me an email at goduti@att.net. Thanks. - Ron
