    Paint or Not to Paint

    Where do I find what to paint and not to paint and what paint to use ,gloss ;semi gloss ,flat for every peice of suspension bolting to the frame on a 62.

    1960 CORVETTE PAINT NOTES

    UNPAINTED:
    - Body Mount Shims
    - Bottom of Body
    - Brakes
    . Brake Line Front Clips
    . Brake Lines & Retainers
    . Brake Shoe Retainer Pin
    . Brass Blocks (including clips)
    . Drums
    . Master Cylinder (can have overspray
    from engine compartment blackout)
    . Vertical Brake Line (could have very slight overspray
    from engine compartment blackout)
    . Wheel Cylinder and retainer bolts
    - Clutch Anti-Rattle Spring
    - Door Courtesy Light Switch
    - Drag Link
    - Emergency Brake Cable (from Firewall)
    - Emergency Brake Cables (rear)
    - Firewall Insulation (interior)
    - Front Spindles
    - Gas Pedal Rod (in car interior)
    - Gas Tank
    - Generator Cast Aluminum tach Drive)
    - Heater Box (heater box is installed after engine
    compartment blackout. Therefore the box is not painted,
    and attachment bolts do not have paint)
    - High Beam Floor Switch
    - Motor Mount Bolts (as well a large washer)
    NOTE: (the bolt, nut, and washer receive a stroke of inspection
    paint indicating that the engine mount bolts have been torque’d down.
    The paint color is a more reddish version of engine color)
    - Neutral Safety Switch, Shield, & Mounting Hardware
    - Pittman Arm
    - Rear Axle Pumpkin
    - Rear Spindles
    - Rebound Straps on Rear Axle
    - Rebound Strap Reinforcement Plates
    - Rebound Strap Rivets
    - Steering Gear Housing
    (some examples have this unit painted semi-gloss black)
    - Third Arm Bearing Assembly
    - Tie Rod Ends
    - Tie Rod Straps (as well as nuts and bolts)
    - Tie Rod Support Arms
    - Transmission (Standard); Automatics are painted
    - U-Joint and U-joint Yoke
    - Voltage Regulator mounting Flange

    PAINTED SEMI-FLAT BLACK:
    - Air Inlets (on either side of grill below headlights)

    - Exhaust System
    NOTE: there is a school of thought that the exhaust system
    did not receive a black-out treatment)
    - Front Hood Hinges
    - Generator Housing (rear frame is gloss black:
    front frame and tach drive are unpainted)

    - Radiator Support
    - Starter Motor
    - Underside of hood
    - Wheel Wells
    (painted half way (width wise) during black-out process)

    - Wiring Harness Clips

    PAINTED GLOSS BLACK:

    - Convertible Top bows
    (some say semi-gloss black)
    (rivets are unpainted)

        If it's not a publication I can easily buy, can you please post the same for a 66 427 Roadster?

          Ronald....Sorry, No info on a C2, During the resto of our 62 I collected as much info as possible....If i remember correctly, this list was submitted on this forum ...Just triying to help the OP

            Ron,
            Order a Judging manual for your car if you don’t have one already. IMO its easier to follow than any lists and its the standard your car will be judged against.

            The JM goes into detail on if a part is painted or natural and gloss level and plating type for most parts on your car. Anything that is not covered in the JM there is plenty of help here to answer any question you might have.
