Have been in the process of pulling out the dash, IP, etc to replace the dash harness because I was smelling something like electrical burning. The smell and smoke was coming from the passenger side of the dash. The car has a Delco DS501 transistor with heat sink and it smells like that may be the source. Does not appear to be any replacements available. Other options suggestions?

Re: Delco DS501 in 69 Corvette
Here's a stash I'm keeping for possible replacements (if required) on my C2 radios. All are dated "7626", which I assume is the 26th week of 1976. Boxes have no date codes on the flaps.
But, in your case, it could be other components on the output amplifier assembly that are cooking.Attached Files- Top

Actually, there are TWO options - one is to send an e-mail, and the other is a PM (Private Message); you can check for incoming PM's at the "Notifications" box at the very top of the page, or it will notify you when you sign on that you have PM's waiting.- Top

If you have an ohm meter Shawn, you can check it yourself. Follow this link (http://www.lbfun.com/warehouse/tech_...86%20AM_FM.pdf) and read the instructions starting on the third page and labeled Checking Power Transistors. A transistor is basically just two diodes so the theory is they will conduct better in one direction than the other. You can use a battery and a light bulb in series also (but the ohm meter is better). Unplug the unit from the radio first to avoid false positives.
You know how to find me if you want help. _Jerry_- Top
