    1969 Starter Finish

I am restoring my 1969 350/350 starter. In looking at the 4th Edition of the TIMJG it states that the starter is semi-gloss black with an iron 'nose'. I have seen several starters where the round armature section is black and the nose section is 'natural'. My starter is completely balck including the solenoid which is not correct as per the TIMJG. The starter is the correct part number and date so I guess it was rebuild and the entire starter was painted black. Can anyone with an original starter confirm the painting and finish for the starter? Thanks for any information

My Januray 1970 LT1 has (as you put it) the round part black, the solenoid and nose are natural. YMMV

Is the car an automatic if it is the nose was aluminum and typically would not be painted black if a cast iron nose it would typically be painted. Hope that helps.

        Paul,
The car is manual with the cast iron 'nose'.
