What part numbers are stamped on the body of these? My guess is that since they were part of the carb assembly and came from Flint, that's the reason they are not in the AIM. Same number for base motor/LT-1/LS5, or different? JG makes mention of them, but gives no numbers. Weren't they also used in 73? There's no mention of them in my 2nd edition-updated 73-74 JG that I could find.

Re: 72 anti-diesel solenoid
Mike, In 72 did they not use a idle step up solenoid for cars with A/C? I know my 72 air car has a solenoid and will step up the idle.when turned on.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top

Re: 72 anti-diesel solenoid
1114450 was the solenoid. Long discontinued but application was not limited to Corvette. For several years after it was discontinued you could buy an identical solenoid from Standard Parts. The last time I tried to buy one they were discontinued. Should be plenty of them in the previously used and abused storage yards (Salvage yards)Dick Whittington- Top

Solenoid is the same as far as I know. Only thing I know that is different is the size of the muffler bearings.Dick Whittington- Top

Re: 72 anti-diesel solenoid
What approximate VIN? Mine is almost #23000.
I would not be surprised if the 1997409 made it on to late 1972 cars.Vice-Chairman (West), Michigan Chapter NCRS

Re: 72 anti-diesel solenoid
Note that Ed and I both have the 1997409 on our 1972 cars. I'm not sure how original his is to the car but I suspect mine has been there since Day 1. It has at least been there 25 years.Vice-Chairman (West), Michigan Chapter NCRS

Re: 72 anti-diesel solenoid
Patrick-----
Are you sure that number on yours is not 1997403? While it's unclear, it looks more like a 3 to me than a 9.
In any event, GM specified 2 different solenoids in SERVICE for 1972. These are cataloged as follows:
1971-72 Corvette (w/ 350, 454)------GM #1114444
1972 Corvette w/Rochester carb------GM #1997409
1973-74 Corvette w/350--------------GM #1997409
I believe the 1114444 was the part number for the contents of the SERVICE part package which may have included other small parts and/or instructions. The solenoid in the box was likely the 1114450. I would expect the same sort of thing for the 1997409 but it's possible the SERVICE part number was the same as on the solenoid.
