I need to get my 1968 front dust shields replated and caliper brackets. Tech Manual says cad or zinc plated to be a dull silver. So, what do I ask the plater to do to get the correct finish. Also, how about on the caliper bracket....says gold iridite. Anything special to ask on that finish? Thanks for your guidance.

Just tell them that you want a dull cadmium or zinc finish. Neither finish has to be shiny but either can be shiny.
The caliper brackets were dull cadmium or zinc with the dichromate over-plate. If they get the substrate cadmium or zinc right as to dullness, the dichromate over-plate will be dull, too, as it should be.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Dust Shields and Caliper brackets
Does anyone know who can replate the shields and caliper brackets. The plating shops I checked with around Philadelphia only do nickel plating, not zinc. Thanks if anyone can direct me. BillBill Hyndman

Did you call Paul's Chrome in Philly? If they do not do it, they might know who does.- Top

Re: Dust Shields and Caliper brackets
I talked to a guy briefly at Carlisle last year. The company is Old School Plating (302-654-5211). Located in Wilmington Delaware, so not all that far from you. I have never used them for plating, but they do the Cad/Zinc and the black phosphate or whatever it is.
If you check them out, please post your results.
I have been sending stuff to Beringer Planting in Ohio and have been very satisfied with the results.Don Harris
