Re: How to restore a STV valve? 1964 coupe with factory AC

I had a friend come by this afternoon and he had with him a AC compressor he gave me for free
He gave me a power steering kit(except the pump and brackets for the pump)for free as well
I know this compressor is for a Corvette and by looking at the numbers is this compressor made in 1967?

Do the AC compressor for a 1964 look just like this one?

Claus -- the cast date of the rear head is that between the two slot-head screw imprints. (I-16-2 ?) The meaning of the "D" casting is unknown, AFAIK. "302" is good. You'll need to flip it over to show us the top seam in the barrel and whether it is swaged or crimped to the front bracket; appears to be crimped ('66 or later ?) going by what is visible on the bottom view.

The pulley diameter seems to be too small for a '64.

Wayne. I thought the D was for the month the compressor was made and that 162 was the day and year

Bryan. If the compressor is not right for my car i wonder if i will go for a lighter newer one if they work on R12?
I do not want to remove the STV valve because i want it as much original looking as possible

It look like the date code is 162 but it looks like there is a 1 or a Y or some number/letter before the number 162?
Here is a enlarged picture of the number and some more numbers of the compressor

Does the brackets for the compressor only fit original exhaust manifolds? Can they be used on a car with headers?

My friend that gave the parts have a 1973 convertible that the compressor might have been in when i bought the car

I tried to find any Corvette parts shop that have the correct clips and screws that attach the blower motor fan housing to the AC box but the clips and screws was almost impossible to find
I do not think that any sells this clips because i have been searching all over the internet for them, but after a while i got the original clips and screws

I put on the STV valve and the fan housing to the AC box just to make sure that everything fit nice(and i wanted to see the parts bolted together)
I put the STV valve halves together so the absolute vacum regulator was placed inside the STV valve bracket which i think must be the correct way to put the valve together
