Are there any known examples of a transposed digit in the engine build month stamp on very late January built 327s? For example stamped FI028XX for October 28th when it should be F0I28XX for January 28th? VIN range would be 942X. Car build date would be approximately Feb 10/65.5109421block-castdate.jpg

Dan, I would think that of all the other numbers line up(heads, intake, block) and the pad does not appear to touched anything may be possible. This would require someone thats been around the engine compartment and judged 100'ssss of pad stamps. You may want to post your pad stamp.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top

Is that thumbnail your casting date? It looks like A255 from the thumbnail, but when blown up I can't make out the A. If it is A255, then F1028 is not possible in my book. Also the head line up for a 0128 assembly date and a 2/10 car build date. I believe it. Hey those guys were human and made mistakes. I think you have one.- Top

Re: Late January 65 327 build date anomoly?
The casting date appears to be A255 which indiates Jan 25, 1965. If this was a low volume motor combination like a 327/350 with air condition, they only made 165 convert. and 337 coupes for the whole model year according to the Noland Adams C2 book. If this is the case, the Flint assembly plant might not have made one of this combinations a day. This would mean they had to set up the gang stamp for the assembly date code to stamp one engine. They could have easily transposed the numbers one and zero and never caught the mistake. Lot of if,s here but possible if the casting date is in fact A255. What does the pad stamp look like and could you post a picture of the stamp.- Top
