Any fellow NCRS members risking their Corvettes in the Pure Stock Drag Races held in Mighigan? If so, would like to hear experiences, ET's/trap speed, etc.

Re: pure stock drags
Well, I participated in 1968 at a track with NASCAR drag racing rules with my '67 327/300 weighing 3145 and ran some pure stock class. Wish I could remember what was shoe polished on the windshield?- Top

Go to the C1/C2 Forum at Corvetteforum.com and do a search for user "Donny Brass" - he's been tearing up the strip in the Pure Stock Drags at the Mid-Michigan Motorplex for several years in his '65 L-79 Corvette, with videos.- Top

Re: pure stock drags
I have been drag racing my '60 for over 30 years. I have held the NCCC drag record three times and had to tear the engine down each time to prove it is what I said. It is a standard bore 283 with all 290 HP components (097 cam, correct heads, etc), and a 7017230 FI unit. The best time I have ran is a 15.00 but I know it could do better. I have this little problem of things breaking such as axles, drive shaft, U-joints, transmission gears, and ring gears to name a few. I also had a rod bearing go out while driving to a St. Louis Regional about 5 years ago. The engine only had about 8,000 miles on it. Was it related to the racing??? Possibly, but no way of knowing for sure. Here is a picture taken at the long closed Lee County Dragway, Keokuk, Iowa, in 1982. I have a in car video taken in Kearney, Nebraska a few years ago but can't post it here. Don H.7-24-82 at Keokuk.jpg- Top

Re: pure stock drags
I'm not sure. But they sure have somebody bankrolling them.
It is unbelieveable how these pure stock cars hookup off the line. All of the top cars just hookup and go. You virtually never see them go up in smoke off the line. Here is a shot of the tires on the Pennington car, Firestone, repo, wide ovals.
I was a bit disappointed at this year's race. I did not see any cars that were 1960 or older.

Looking at the most recent results, some of the BB cars are in the 11's which is very stout indeed...Bill Clupper #618- Top

Re: pure stock drags
Tires! I read the rules looking for what tires a 1962 would be required, 6.70x15s won't cut it. It says if your cars was produced prior to the 70 series tire then your can run the appropriate 70 series tire, whish is? Oh yea, you still need to use that 5x15 steel wheel. Did I read that wrong? How could they compete?- Top
