I have looked at a lot of 84 Corvettes. I have owned an 84 since 1990 and I have never seen a code D98. I have seen code D9B. My 84 has a code D9B on the spid tag but there is no D98 .If you have a documented 84 with code D98 I would love to see it. However I agree with Dave on the judging. It would be a 100% deduct if your car has the pin strip and you cannot prove the option code D98.

I've owned my '84 since May of '83 and have collected a number of early dealer order forms, spec sheets, correspondence, etc. as my salesman at the time was very helpful in documenting things for me. I've never heard/seen anything about this option. It doesn't even look like it would belong on the car, as it sure doesn't add to the appearance. Without it showing up on a build sheet or window sticker I'm going with the "dealer installed option for profit" done by a local trim installer like these stripes were done for a number of vehicles at the time. Not at all connected with GM. My '85 Riviera had them. Is it possible the Killebrew source is thinking about the CE stripes on the '82?

Does your vette SPID tag located in the drivers side rear storage compartment have a code D98? If so would you post a picture of it?

IIRC, Walter F. thought his car had the D98 code on its tag, but it turned out to be D9B. The real question is does anyone's tag show the D98 code, and if so could we see a pic of it?

I think you are looking at generic option code charts. Most factory service manuals include them and not all are aplicable to every vehicle. Look at the third picture... surely we will not be searching for a Corvette with the Beauville option or side loading door. I find it interesting that this "debate" continues even though it appears no one has produced a legible SPID with D98 on a Corvette. Chip.
