    67' tank: Paint or not??

I'm struggling with leaving the gas tank alone and just clean it up or should i paint it? Doing a frame off restoration on a 67' convertible but i'm not going for NCRS points. Looking for thoughts from others and what they have done. If left alone what is the best way to clean it (mild surface rust in spots) and can it be light sanded in the area where I removed the tank sticker (metal scratches from razor blade). Also should the inside of the tank be cleaned and if so with what? If i do paint it....I have heard of Eastwood tank tone.

Paint it. Ace Hardware makes a Galvanized Paint that is dead on. Just DA sand and prime first.

Mark, Pardon the ignorance but what does DA mean?

I used purple power and steel wool to clean my tank. Then I used a satin clear on it. If you sand on it you'll wind up with some sand marks as the metal is soft.. If the inside of the tank is clean then reuse it. If not, a new tank is in order. Here are before and after photos. I found a local company to make a new stencil.....

I agree, clean it and apply a good automotive clear coat.
