68 Only Grill, any options ?

The grills in 68 were unique, anyone have a solution for 68 only grills? Can the later ones be modified, I haven't seen after market options and haven't seen any good used ones.

    Thanks for any suggestions,

    Steve

The only option other then an original set would be to buy the reproduction 68-69 grills and modify the the outer reinforcement areas so they appear to be 68 grills. I would expect that to be a very hard process. Then paint the leading edges silver.

What Steve is talking about is the difference below, and nobody reproduces those 68 only front left or right grills. They are almost impossible to find, especially that are useable.

you got that right Dale- these things are unicorns! Modifying repos are as good as it is going to get for now. Carefully cut down the ribs, file, sand and paint- gets it close.

Yes, those are 68 origionals and made of the same plastic as the 69. The 68's were very fragile and so the 69 version was beefef up some. Even taking that build up out, the louvers protruded the sides and had a taper which would be very hard to fashion. The painting ??? went through some changes during the 68 model year also.

These grilles were also used for early 1969. I have a friend with an original owner, October, 1968-built 1969 and his car has the 1968 style grilles.

                    Hi Steve
Use a dremil tool and cut off excess plastic then spray paint using a silver ralley wheel paint. I have to check what paint again as I restored some using this paint. I sold one of my last nice full set 68 plastic grills. I have some originals but broken and missing pieces.
                    Hope this helps.

Hi Joe, thanks for the pics, my car is also a Feb 68 car, original grills long gone, the pics you've posted look like the 69 style grills, any chance they were replaced under warranty or somewhere along the way?
                          thanks Again,

                          Steve

Joe- are there part numbers visible on the back? I think 68 and 69 part numbers are different. I know when I looked into my 68 grilles they had left and right part numbers that were aligned with a 69.

Agree with Steve those grills are from a 1969 or service replacements. Here is photo of what it should look like.
