Re: 1970 LS-5 tcs switch lead

The green wire I spoke of in the previous post does not go to the relay that is on the evaporator, it goes to the relay/fuse that clips on to the vacuum hose of the wiper actuator.

    Sorry about the mix up.

Re: 1970 LS-5 tcs switch lead

      Terry,
I cleared up the issues, but something does not make sense. The black wire I was confused about is the trans switch for the TCS, and the other is a non issue.

So, the only wire in my whole harness that has an issue is the TCS trans wire. That will be reasonably easy to fix. OTHER THAN THE FACT THAT I CANNOT FIND NY TCS JUMPER, THING ARE LOOKING GREAT.

Because the harness has never been molested, I did not want to cut any wrap away or take anything apart.

What I did was: The plug that plugs into the TCS switch has two terminals. Dark blue and tan. The tan comes in and jumps to the idle shut down solenoid like it is supposed to. . The blue comes in and is supposed to jumper to the TCS temp sensor on the side of the passenger block. I will call this four wire set the TCS harness for this thread.

Going toward the passenger side, about three inches from where the TCS harness goes into the main harness, I pulled back the wrapping just enough to see what wires are in that part of the main harness that is heading over to the passenger side of the car. The dark blue TCS wire that is supposed to the the TCS jumper is not there. There is a dark blue wire in it, but it is a different wire. I double and triple checked it.

But, just about an inch and a half back from there, it seems like there is a plug of some kind and it has a jumper from one terminal to the other. The jumper is only long enough to come out of the plug and turn and go right back in.

At this point it would be simple if I cut my harness apart to see what it is, but I do not want to cut a almost perfect harness. The wrap is too tight there to pull it back to see what color wire is under there.

So Terry, finally my question. What was it that you guys never figured out years ago. Is there another wire that may just go directly to the TCS heat sensor? Do you mean directly, in that there was not another plug and a wire came out of the harness and ran right to the TCS heat sensor?

The jumper/wire that is to hook to the TCS sensor is usually green. I am wondering if I were to open my harness if I might find the connector that is about 1 1/2" away from where the TCS harness goes back into the main harness, I might have a dark blue wire on one connector and a green on the other. The green being the green wire that typically goes to the TCS heat sensor?

What do you think? Yes, I know if I open the harness and find the dark blue connected to the green, where is the green still?

ANYBODY feel free to jump in. Does anybody have a big block 72 with your wiring harness open a bit so maybe we can take a look?

Thank everybody. Maybe I should start a new thread about this. What do you think , Terry,

      Monte

Here is a picture of the possible plug, but you can see the hoop of wire for sure.
Any idea what this might be?

          Monte,
I have no idea what wires you are searching for. One clue might be to do a PV type operations check on your car and see what does not operate. You also would get more help if you started your own thread with a title about the wires that appear to go nowhere.

I thought I was clear about what we have not figured out, but I'll try again.

Some 1970-72 corvettes have a separate harness to the TCS Temperature sensor -- the one you pictured in the first of two pictures in your post of April 26 at 1:42 PM. Others do not have that separate harness. The green wire simply comes out of the harness and goes to the temperature sensor.

We couldn't figure out any rhyme or reason to which cars had which wire configuration -- and we still don't know. There were obviously two different wire harness in use at the same time.

            Terry,

I will start my own thread.

The wire I am looking for is the one that connects to the heat sensor in the passenger head. I resolved the other issue. Everything works. The wire comes off the TCS switch goes back into the main harness and then disappears.

I will start my own thread.
