    Help ID '63/4 (?) parts

Bought a 70 lb box of parts off eBay, claiming '63 Corvette (clutch fork, etc.); but a differential posi case, Eaton 1st design, with ring/pinion gears and other small items (eg. power antenna mount brkt) points to '65-6.

The slip yoke (16-spline) is [I think] from a Borg-Warner T-10. Was this also used with a '63 Powerglide ? With the U-bolts, does this identify exclusive Corvette usage ?

The real mystery part is that thin bracket with the screw holes. Any guesses ?

Wayne, the thin bracket looks like a heater core strap. Bob

Here's the anwer on the thin wire retainer......it holds the heater core in place inside the heater box. The slip yoke would be from the BW T-10 used on the '63 Corvette. I understand the following year BW changed their output shaft to a 27 spline much like the Muncie......more durable application. I've converted my '63 BW to the 27 spline output, much better deal than the spindley 16 spline output.

I believe this style transmission yoke (i.e. u-bolts) was only used on Corvettes and beginning with the 1963 model year.

I think the coarse spline was also used on the powerglide in 63

            Bob -

Only through 1961 (cast iron); '62-up (aluminum) Powerglides all had 27-spline output shafts.

              John,

For 63, all 3 speed, PowerGlide and Borg Warner 4 speed transmissions used the coarse spline output shaft and yoke.

Muncie for 63, and later, used the fine spline yoke.

                Michael -

CBTN (Colvin) shows PG coarse through '61 and fine from '62-up, and the Tripoli book shows PG coarse through '63-'64, changing to fine in '65. Gotta sort that out.

I could be wrong but Pontiac used the same transmission with a fine spline output shaft and it will interchange with the Chevrolet Borg Warner, it's a nice upgrade if you are not a purist. The yoke with u bolts is the only way to remove/install the drive shaft.

                    John,

Now ya had me wondering if my memory was fading because I'm so old now.

                    I had it right.

I just looked in an August 1963 printing of the parts book and found...

Yoke, 1963 Corvette (exc Muncie 4-speed...........3818916

                    Yoke, 1963 Corvette w/Muncie 4-speed..............3832678

So, all 63's except with Muncie 4-speed had coarse spline output shaft and yoke.

I wonder if the drive shaft assembly part number in the 63 AIM shows the same part number for 3-speed, BW 4-speed and PowerGlide? Should be the same number if both use a coarse spline output shaft.

Edit: I just looked in the 63 AIM. Looks like all except with Muncie 4-speed used the same drive shaft assembly and coarse spline front yoke. So all 63's with Powerglide, 3-speed and B-W four speed had coarse spline yoke.

Also, a 3712379 coarse spline front yoke was used for ALL 55-62 Corvettes so he has that wrong too.
