63 side window replacment tips anyone?

Searched the archives and the restorer article CD but didn't find what I needed. My drivers side window came out of the lower channel and I need to reinstall it. The channel had a funky plastic U shape "gripper" kind of thang inside to hold the window in place. I ordered a replacement and got what appears to be a rubberized strip about .06 thick X 1" wide and long enough to go the entire length of the channel.

I've got the door completely gutted as part of reststoration effort so I should be able to manhandle this sucker back into place but maybe somebody know the easy way. If so I'm all ears....

remove window glass and its channel from door. i usually masking tape the rubberized liner to the glass, then hammer the channel onto the glass( use a soft headed hammer and don't strike too vigerously). hopefully there will be "debris" remaining on the glass to allow you to re-position the channel onto the glass in the correct for-aft position. also, the rubberized bedding was originally totally black, unlike some repos i've seen that were dark gray with white fibers running thru them. if ya need some correct bedding, let me know. mike

Tracy, if you take some dishwashing soap and coat the rubber it will help on the install as Mike says. If your window still has the imprints of where the window placement was take a sharpe and mark the location so you will get it back in the same location.

All good input fellas..yes I can still see a ghost outline of where the window was previously located. I'll use the sharpe idea and the dish soad idea too. Mike's method of tapping the channel down onto the glass with a soft blow hammer also sounds like a winner!

          I love this place..

          thanks all,

Tracy, If you have a piece of 2x4 place the window on end,and with a old towel to help with the install while installing.
