couple of judging questions 72 L-48

I am preparing my 72 for my regional and have a couple of questions I would like to know the details. On my themostat housing it has one stud and one long bolt, Is there a suppose to be a stud?? and the hoses to the TCS system have white stripes - are there suppose to be stripes on these hoses? The reason for these questions they where brought up at my last chapter level meet a few yeas ago. and want to correct if they are in deed wrong. The vacuum hoses are repro.s but the stud on the themostat housing I thought was original, maybe some of you L-48 guys can take a look at your cars.

    Ed,

You should know by now to just look at my photos. I can't get a good look at them right now, but I believe that the judges may have been incorrect on both of these items.

      Ed/Patrick,
I agree w/ Patrick. The stud is correct and I believe the stripes (on some or all) of the hoses is correct also. Not at home to check my photos but will do so later.

That is correct. Reference to the TIM&JG, page 91 shows the small vacuum lines have a off-white painted stripe on them, so the TCS line is correct. Page 84 states the stud on the themostat housing on the 350 engine that is unused. Hope that helps.

Both items are mentioned in the TIM&JG. Have your copy with you next time the car is judged and politely challenge the judges.

Terry, I have no problems with the judges and respect there opinions, it just that the JM is not always correct, so I thought these could be easy fixes if they are wrong. And we are human we all make mistakes. Restoring our cars is just a game of details. I don't mind trying to get it right. its not always easy.

The JM is not always correct and neither are the judges. and the judges, owners & manual contributors are all human too. We all learn from the judging process -- manual contributors, owners & judges. In the best of all worlds all will have an open mind and gain from each others experiences. There was a learning moment there for those judges, but it has passed.

Hi Ed. For what it's worth, my '72 L48 has the stud and the white striped TCS hoses and passed without issue at the 2011 national.

Good luck on your upcoming experience.
