1958 C1 - Does anyone know that was used at a gasket adhesive on the windshield rubber gasket seal to the glass. I have the Dynatex YELLOW adhesive that I know was used on the weatherstriping around the car but not sure if this was also used on the windshield. Any advise or product recommendations would be great. Show car 1958

Re: C1 - 1958 Windshield Gasket Adhesive Question
Unless you plan to drive your car in the rain or run it through a car wash, you probably won't find anyone on the TDB that will recommend using any type of sealant. If you must, go to an autoglass installation business and purchase a caulk tube of black sealant.- Top

Re: C1 - 1958 Windshield Gasket Adhesive Question
If you opt NOT to use adhesive inside your windshield gasket....be careful who you choose to install your convertible top. My installer decided he wanted to put the top on so tight that when he latched the top to the windshied frame he pulled the windshield frame off the glass and broke both tabs on my windshield posts. This guy was supposed to be the best in the area. So I replaced the tabs ($90 apiece), added a small amount of sealant to the rubber (yes it's very messy), reassembled the windshield and took it to someone else to finish the top. If I was a betting man I'd say this was a key reason for why there are so many broken tabs windshield posts on e-bay!- Top

Re: C1 - 1958 Windshield Gasket Adhesive Question
There is an excellent article in the Spring 2010 "Restorer", by Dennis Kazmierzak, about assembling a C1 windshield. He recommends urethane glass sealant for the glass to rubber and Dow Corning 795 for the rubber to metal interface. I believe that the 795 is black RTV.- Top
