Trip Odometer Reset Button Location on my '77?

The trip odometer on my '77 is currently hanging buy the cable under the dash. It has been like this since I bought the car and I would like to put in the proper location but their isn't any place on the dash to attach it. The manual says it is located on the left of the steering column but there is no indication where it should be. Any advise would be appreciated so I can clean this up.

Nice picture of the mounting bracket Lawrence.

        Stan,

Looking at the photos on screen, it's not perfectly clear to me (and may not be to you, either), that the knob end of the reset cable passes through the inboard hole of the mounting bracket, up to where it's stopped by its shoulder, and is then locked in place by putting the thin nut on the threaded shank. After the nut is on, the rubber knob goes on. At least, in a 1972.

        Good luck with your project.

        Larry

Thanks, Larry, for the info. From the pics. and your discription I can see that I am missing the mounting bracket.
Guess I'll have to 'invent" one that will work that is similar to your pics.

          Thanks, again,
          Stan

I should have thought of this earlier...the part number shown for the bracket, 3954281, is listed as being used on 1968-1977 models, in group 9.761 of the December 1983 GM catalog.

Sorry it took so long to reply. My computer took a puke and I just got it back in operation. Thanks guys, for
your help I found the same page in the assembly manual that I have for my '77. I think I will start woth a visit
to the Chevy dealer to see if they can do my any good with the part # that you gave me.

                Thanks, again for your help.

If you strike out at the dealer, it's listed by part number on Paragon's website for $15.00.
